Purpose: Guide new citizens through their first week with meaningful, rewarding quests

Overview

The Starter Questline is a carefully designed sequence of quests that:

  • ✅ Introduces core systems gradually
  • ✅ Builds confidence and competence
  • ✅ Rewards participation meaningfully
  • ✅ Creates social connections
  • ✅ Establishes healthy habits

Duration: 7 days (flexible pacing)
Total Rewards: 200 KS + badges + reputation
Completion Rate Goal: 85%+

DAY 1: Welcome & Setup

Quest 1.1: "Hello, HIVE"

Objective: Complete your onboarding and meet your Companion Agent

Steps:

  1. ✅ Complete onboarding flow
  2. ✅ Meet your Companion Agent
  3. ✅ Set up your profile (name, avatar, bio)
  4. ✅ Explore your dashboard
  5. ✅ Read the Citizen Edition of the Cathedral Rulebook (optional but recommended)

Rewards: - 20 KS - Badge: "First Steps" - +10 Reputation

Time: 15-30 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "Welcome! I'm SAGE, your Companion Agent. I'm here to help you thrive. Let's start by setting up your profile. What would you like to be called?"

Quest 1.2: "Meet Your City-State"

Objective: Learn about your City-State's identity and metrics

Steps:

  1. ✅ View your City-State's GI_state
  2. ✅ Check the current velocity (v)
  3. ✅ See the GDP_state
  4. ✅ Read about your City-State's focus and culture
  5. ✅ Watch a short video tour (optional)

Rewards: - 10 KS - Badge: "City Explorer" - +5 Reputation

Time: 10-15 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "Let me show you around! This is Aurora — a City-State focused on knowledge and learning. See that number, 0.972? That's our integrity score. Pretty high! And look — people are really active here. Velocity is 0.82. That means this place is alive."

DAY 2-3: Exploration & Learning

Quest 2.1: "Three North Stars"

Objective: Understand the three key metrics that guide the HIVE

Steps:

  1. ✅ Complete interactive tutorial on GI_state
  2. ✅ Complete interactive tutorial on velocity (v)
  3. ✅ Complete interactive tutorial on GDP_state
  4. ✅ Answer 3 quiz questions
  5. ✅ Predict how your actions affect each metric

Rewards: - 15 KS - Badge: "Navigator" - +10 Reputation

Time: 20 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "These three numbers — Integrity, Participation, and Value — they're your North Stars. Every action you take affects them. Let me show you how..."

Quest 2.2: "Discover Your Companion"

Objective: Learn what your Companion Agent can do for you

Steps:

  1. ✅ Ask your Companion 3 different questions
  2. ✅ Request help with something you're learning
  3. ✅ Explore your Companion's specialties
  4. ✅ Set your first learning goal
  5. ✅ Schedule your first check-in

Rewards: - 10 KS - Badge: "AI Partner" - +5 Reputation

Time: 15 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "Want to know what I can do? Ask me anything! I can help you learn, plan projects, track your goals, find resources, or just chat. What would be most useful to you right now?"

Quest 2.3: "Meet the Agents"

Objective: Understand the role of Custodian and State Agents

Steps:

  1. ✅ Read about the Custodian Agent
  2. ✅ Read about the State Agent
  3. ✅ Watch a short video showing how they protect integrity
  4. ✅ Answer: "Why can't the Steward disable the Custodian Agent?"
  5. ✅ View a recent integrity check log

Rewards: - 10 KS - Badge: "System Guardian" - +5 Reputation

Time: 10 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "The Custodian Agent is like a guardian for all of us. It makes sure no one — not even the Steward — can corrupt the system. Pretty cool, right? Let me show you how it works..."

DAY 4-5: Contribution & Creation

Quest 3.1: "First Contribution"

Objective: Make your first meaningful contribution to the City-State

Steps:

Choose ONE of the following:

Option A: Knowledge Sharing - ✅ Write a short guide on something you know - ✅ Share a useful resource - ✅ Post it in the knowledge commons

Option B: Skill Building - ✅ Complete a learning module - ✅ Pass a skill quiz - ✅ Share what you learned

Option C: Community Support - ✅ Help answer 3 questions from other citizens - ✅ Provide thoughtful, helpful responses - ✅ Earn "Helpful" ratings

Rewards: - 25 KS - Badge: "Contributor" (+ specialty badge based on option) - +15 Reputation

Time: 30-60 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "Ready to contribute? What do you enjoy doing? Teaching? Learning? Helping others? Pick what feels natural — there's no wrong choice here."

Quest 3.2: "Earn Your Keep"

Objective: Understand how KS works and earn more

Steps:

  1. ✅ Complete a micro-quest (5 minutes, earn 5 KS)
  2. ✅ View your KS balance and transaction history
  3. ✅ Spend KS on something (unlock a feature, donate, gift, etc.)
  4. ✅ Watch the 2% burn happen on a transaction
  5. ✅ Understand why burning creates value

Rewards: - 15 KS (net +10 after spending) - Badge: "Economic Citizen" - +10 Reputation

Time: 20 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "KS isn't just currency — it's a reflection of your contribution. And see how 2% burns with each transaction? That keeps the economy healthy. Let me show you your balance..."

DAY 6-7: Community & Integration

Quest 4.1: "Join the Plaza"

Objective: Introduce yourself and connect with other citizens

Steps:

  1. ✅ Post an introduction in the City-State plaza
  2. Who you are
  3. What you're interested in
  4. How you want to contribute
  5. ✅ Welcome 2 other new citizens
  6. ✅ Join a community group or topic channel
  7. ✅ Participate in a discussion
  8. ✅ Make 1 new connection

Rewards: - 20 KS - Badge: "Community Builder" - +15 Reputation

Time: 30 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "Time to meet your neighbors! The plaza is where everyone gathers. Don't be shy — people here are friendly. Want me to help you write your introduction?"

Quest 4.2: "Attend Your First Event"

Objective: Participate in a City-State event

Steps:

  1. ✅ Find an upcoming event (festival, learning session, gathering)
  2. ✅ RSVP to the event
  3. ✅ Attend the event (or watch recording)
  4. ✅ Participate actively (ask question, contribute, engage)
  5. ✅ Share one takeaway or reflection

Rewards: - 25 KS - Badge: "Festival Goer" - +15 Reputation

Time: 30-90 minutes (depending on event)

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "There's a Learning Festival happening tomorrow! It's a great way to meet people and learn something new. Want me to add it to your calendar?"

Quest 4.3: "Your First Week Review"

Objective: Reflect on your first week and set goals

Steps:

  1. ✅ Review your stats (KS earned, reputation gained, quests completed)
  2. ✅ Answer: "What surprised you most about the HIVE?"
  3. ✅ Answer: "What do you want to focus on next?"
  4. ✅ Set 3 goals for your second week
  5. ✅ Schedule a check-in with your Companion

Rewards: - 30 KS - Badge: "Week One Complete" - +20 Reputation - UNLOCK: Advanced quest board

Time: 15 minutes

Companion Dialogue:

SAGE: "You made it through your first week! Let's look at what you've accomplished... Wow, you've earned 200 KS, gained 100 reputation points, and completed 9 quests. That's fantastic! What do you want to do next?"

COMPLETION: "Welcome Home"
